The Gargoyle

An experimental short story website

The Gargoyle began with a desire to build something in the spirit of the weirdness and creativity that permeated the early internet. The project started as a simple short story, fictionalizing an incident that happened to me several years ago. It quickly grew into something more and I re-envisioned the story as a website. The design itself is minimalistic and exists solely to support the story, while the illustrations and animations I made serve to push and reveal deeper layers of the narrative. I wanted to ensure that the design translated well to mobile devices, so responsiveness was key throughout the design and development. Read it yourself at
